Private Practice Business Consulting
You're a talented clinician. But your ideal private practice runs on more than clinical skill. It runs on systems — how clients find you, how referral relationships get built and sustained, setting guilt-free fees, tracking what's actually working versus what isn't. Unless you pursue a dual degree, graduate schools do not offer business education in their counseling, social work or marriage and family programs. As a result, therapists are often left building these systems by instinct, without fully knowing the multiple facets of building and maintaining a private practice.
I view your practice as a set of interconnected systems — positioning, referrals, content, analytics — that interact with each other to function, like its own ecosystem. Ideas are investigated for viability through data, tested in practice, and refined based on what the data actually shows. This isn't a packaged program or a one-size framework. It's one-on-one work on your specific practice, your specific niche, and the specific systems you need to build or fix.
For some therapists, the obstacle isn't a missing strategy. It's the anxiety of running a business in the first place: fee-setting guilt, niche indecision, avoidance around marketing yourself. Sometimes, working through that block directly is part of the work…more on that below.
Who This Is For
This may be useful if you recognize any of the following in your practice:
A caseload that isn't filling, despite strong clinical work
Referral relationships that feel inconsistent, or that you don't know how to build intentionally
Pricing set out of guilt or guesswork rather than a clear rationale
Marketing you've avoided, or approached without a way to know what's actually working
A niche that hasn't been clearly defined — or one you're not sure how to talk about
No real system for tracking what's converting and what isn't, your outreach and marketing efforts
You've already invested time or money into something — a course, a coach, a marketing or SEO team — that didn't deliver what it promised
You don't need to return to school for your MBA, but you do need to understand how to not just position and market your practice, you need to know how to monitor your efforts so you can tweak and adjust as you need. Most therapists building a practice are working from instinct, not infrastructure. Instinct is an excellent starting point, but it’s the data and systems that substantiate your instincts.
If this sounds like what’s happening in your business — and you recognize yourself in what you’re reading — then a consultation is where we can discuss your practice and whether working with me is right for you.
How I Approach This Work
It took me a long time before I understood the importance of systems in my practice to determine a data-based approach to positioning, SEO, referral sources and pipeline, and setting fees. That process hasn't been without missteps — investments that didn't pay off, directions that felt right and weren't once I actually tried them, and decisions I'd make differently now. Many of these missteps occurred because I followed my will and daydreams more than the data and facts at hand. I don't bring a polished, uninterrupted success story to this work. I bring what actually happens when you build a practice: trial, error, and enough perspective to help you skip some of the more costly detours.
Sessions are built around your specific practice and whatever system isn’t flowing smoothly — whether that's a referral pipeline that's gone quiet, a pricing structure you're not confident in, a website that’s not converting, or a niche you haven't yet been able to name clearly.
And as a certified Brainspotting clinician, I can also bring this approach to our meetings. Brainspotting isn't only a clinical tool — it's also used outside of therapy for performance enhancement, which is the context it applies in here. When a stuck point is less about strategy and more about something an internal roadblock, we can use it directly in session to work through the block itself, to help bring clarity to your next steps.
Beginning This Work
What I offer is session-by-session consulting on a PRN basis — no package, no long-term commitment. We meet, you run your practice with the information and next steps we’ve identified and you are free to return as you need.
My fee is $360 per hour session.
Are you curious about whether this is the right fit? Would you like more information before investing? Reach out, and let's set up a free 20-minute Zoom to talk through your practice, what you're working on and what your goals are — no pressure at all, just a conversation.
You don't need to have it all figured out before contacting me or feel embarrassed if you rock it as a clinician and fumble as a business owner. Most of figuring out what works happens by looking at the information, making a reasonable plan based on that information, tracking and analyzing the data from those efforts and shifting gears as needed when new information is identified.
If that sounds like what you need then I’m here to help.
